SMS: Specifying Long File Name for Status MIF Causes Error

SYMPTOMS

If you specify a file name longer than the MS-DOS convention of eight characters plus the extension for the MIF file generated by Systems Management Server Installer during an installation or uninstallation of a 16-bit executable (.exe) file, and then you try to run that .exe, an application error similar to the following will occur:

SMSISTUB caused a General Protection Fault in module ~GLC387E.TMP at 0003:89FC.
Click Close; SMSISTUB will close.


WORKAROUND

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server 2.0. This problem was first corrected in Systems Management Server 2.0 Service Pack Service Pack 1.
