Installing Systems Management Server 2.0 Service Pack 1

NOTE: If you have the BackOffice 4.5 version of Systems Management Server 2.0 CD, then you must download the Autorun.inf file and include it in the CD source directory you create in Step 1 below.

The retail stand-alone version of Systems Management Server 2.0 already has the Autorun.inf file; therefore, the one on the FTP site is not needed.

To install Systems Management Server 2.0 Service Pack 1, follow the steps below:
  1. Copy the contents of the Systems Management Server 2.0 CD to a local directory on the hard disk and share the directory. Copy the downloaded version of Autorun.inf to this directory if the SMS 2.0 CD is the one included with BackOffice version 4.5.

  2. Create a new directory (for this example, the directory will be called "SMS20SP1") on a local workstation or on your primary site server.

  3. Share the above SMS20SP1 directory.

  4. Download one of the files listed above and copy it into the directory you just created and shared.

  5. From a command prompt, switch to that directory and type the command for the executable file you downloaded. For example, if your computer has an Intel-based processor, you would download the Smsupdi.exe file and type the command smsupdi.exe.

The file will be unzipped to the %Temp% folder (by default, this is the c:\temp directory). A message will be displayed stating that the unzip was successful, and then the Service Pack Setup Wizard will start.

The Service Pack Wizard asks for the location of the Destination Directory. Select the second option: The SMS 2.0 CD Image is on a local or network Drive. Click Browse and point to the location of the directory you created in Step 1 above.

NOTE: The Systems Management Server 2.0 Service Pack 1 Setup program cannot run from the same drive where Systems Management Server 2.0 has been installed. Use the following steps to work around this problem by sharing the SMS20SP1 directory to a network drive and running Setup from the new drive:
  1. Share the SMS20SP1 directory as in Step 2 above.

  2. Connect a network drive to the share you just configured.

  3. Run the service pack setup from the network drive connection.
