Crtpkgw.exe Hangs While Trying to Create Packages in DB2 When Connected over TCP/IP

SYMPTOMS

If the DB2 user doesn't have appropriate authority to create packages in a DB2 collection or if an invalid collection is specified for the Package Collection property and the Crtpkgw.exe utility is used to connect to DB2 (Mainframe) over TCP/IP and create the packages, the utility stops responding (hangs) or causes an access violation.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SNA Server version 4.0. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

Make sure the user has the proper authority to create packages or specify a valid collection name for the Package Collection property. For additional information on creating packages, please refer to the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SNA Server version 4.0 Service Pack 2 . This problem was first corrected in SNA Server version 4.0 Service Pack 3.

With service pack 3, if the user doesn't have the authority to create package, the following error message is returned when Crtpkgw.exe is used to create the packages:

SQL Error: Code=-567, State=42501, Error Text= AUTHORIZATION ERROR USING auth-id AUTHORITY PACKAGE = package-name PRIVILEGE = privilege
