BUG: SQL Service Manager Is Monochrome When Colors Are > 256

SYMPTOMS

The SQL Server Service Manager (also known as the Stop Light applet) appears in monochrome (black and white) on Windows NT version 3.5 systems when the video system has been configured to display more than 256 colors.


CAUSE


WORKAROUND

You can use the SQL Service Control Manager in this monochrome mode, or reconfigure the Windows NT machine for 256 or less colors.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 4.2. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
