BUG: Mips BCP Utility Gives Application Error w/o Password

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft SQL Server version 4.21

SYMPTOMS

If you use the bulk copy program (BCP) utility from Microsoft SQL Server for Mips processors, it generates the following application error if the password is not specified on the command line:

The instruction at "0x00411db4" referenced memory at "0x0041ffff".
The memory could not be "read".

NOTE: The error does not occur in Microsoft SQL Server for Intel or DEC Alpha processors.

The following command line duplicates the application error when you run the BCP utility from Microsoft SQL Server for Mips:


   BCP pubs..authors OUT authors.out /n /Usa /S

WORKAROUND

Specify the login password with the /P parameter.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 4.21 for Mips. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
