SUMMARY

This article discusses the warning messages generated by the evaluation version of Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0.

MORE INFORMATION

The evaluation version of Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0 is licensed for a 120-day evaluation only and is limited to 128 user connections. There are Alpha, Intel, and MIPS versions of this SQL Server available. The ODBC driver is automatically installed along with the SQL Server.

Warning or error messages are displayed as pop-up messages and are also recorded in the event and error logs. The following warning message is displayed ten days before the expiration day:

SQL Server evaluation period will expire in 10 days

Then, this warning counts down each day. After the expiration date, an attempt to start the SQL Server generates the following message and fails to start the SQL Service Manager.
The evaluation period has expired for this evaluation version of SQL Server

You can not install the evaluation version a second time, even if the first one is removed.

You can use a regular, released copy of SQL Server version 6.0 to upgrade the evaluation version.
