SYMPTOMS

The following errors may occur if you use the Windows NT (Win32) version of SQL Administrator when dumping a database to a tape:

  • Dialog box with the title "new: SQLADMIN.EXE - Application Error" and the message:
The instruction at 0x00453983 referenced memory at 0x00000000.
The memory could not be written.

  • Dialog box with the title "new" and the message:
    Out of Memory

  • Dialog box with the title "SQLADMIN.EXE - Application Error" and the message:
The instruction at 0x00452d03 referenced memory at 0x00000000.
The memory could not be written.

CAUSE

The Win32 version of the SQL Administrator client can cause an application error and cause SQL Administrator to close if it performs repeated tasks of dumping a database to a tape device using the following steps:

  1. Choose Manage Database from the menu.

  2. Choose a database in the Database Management window.

  3. Choose Manage, Backup/Restore, Backup/Restore from the menu.

  4. Choose a tape device.

  5. Select the Append Backup check box, and click the OK button.

WORKAROUND

If you receive one of the above errors, exit SQL Administrator or click End Task in the Task List dialog box and restart SQL Administrator.

You can also dump a database to tape by using the DUMP command from the query window of SQL Administrator or any other query utility without causing the above errors.
