BUG: SEM Does Not Display Error When Changing Config Values

ID: Q147644

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0

BUG# NT: 13122 (6.00)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Server Configurations, Options dialog box in SQL Enterprise Manager (SEM) to increase a configuration value that requires a certain amount of memory to be successful, and the SQL Server is not configured for that amount of memory, SQL server does not allow the change to be made (as expected). However, SQL server does not show any error message indicating the failure of the command. sp_configure shows error message 5813 in similar situations:

Msg 5813, Level 16, State 1
Unable to run with specified memory size of 4096. Please see the System
Administration Guide for more information on how to calculate this number.
