BUG: BCP w/ Format File Switching Columns w/ Nulls Causes Err.

ID: Q150463

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0

BUG#: 13176 (6.00)

SYMPTOMS

If a BCP format file is used to reorder the columns differently from the order of the columns in the source input file and the source input file includes null values, BCP may return the following error:

#@ Row X, Column Y: Attempt to bulk-copy a NULL value into a Server column which does not accept NULL values. @#

This error may occur even though the columns in the table where null values are trying to be inserted into allow nulls.

Note: You will need to use the /e option to capture this error to a file. Also, the X and Y represent the actual row and column of the problem column in the source file.

WORKAROUND

Make sure that the column order matches between the source import file and the table into which you are importing data.
