SYMPTOMS
The SQL Server "Administrator's Companion" says on page 671:
When you install SQL Server, the setup program assigns 8 MB of memory to SQL Server if the computer has less than 32 MB of RAM, and 16 MB of memory if the computer has 32 MB or more of RAM. Actually, a computer must have 64 MB or more or RAM before setup raises the default memory assigned to SQL Server to 16 MB. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server versions 6.0 and 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. Additional query words: default memory setup
