INF: Run English SQL with Code Page 950 on English Windows NT

SUMMARY

This article describes how to manually add code page for language not supported, by default, in Windows NT Server 3.51 so that SQL Server 6.5 with code page 950 can run successfully.

However, for languages that are not listed in the Language list in Control Panel International, you must add code pages manually. To add code pages, do the following:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.
  1. Copy the code page file, C_950.NLS, to the %SystemRoot%\System32 directory


  2. Start the Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) and locate the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree:
    
       \System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage
     


  3. From the Edit menu, choose Add Value.


  4. Enter the following values:
    
          Value Name: 950
          Data Type: REG_SZ
          String: C_950.NLS
     


  5. Locate the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree:
    
       \System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Language
     


  6. From the Edit menu, choose Add Value.


  7. Enter the following values:
    
          Value Name: 0404
          Data Type: REG_SZ
          String: L_Intl.nls
     


  8. Quit Registry Editor.


  9. Shut down and restart Windows NT.


  10. Install SQL Server with default code page 950.
