BUG: SQL Server Setup Does Not Allow Installation to Drives Y or Z

SYMPTOMS

SQL Server Setup does not show drives Y or Z as possible installation locations.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, rename the drive letter to a letter other than Y or Z.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.0 and 6.5.

This problem affects an original installation of SQL Server, an upgrade of SQL Server, and a Rebuild Master through SQL Server Setup.
