FIX: Incorrect Results from Sysprocesses with SQL Server 7.0 ODBC Driver

ID: Q194665

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5

BUG #: 17693 (SQLBUG_65)

SYMPTOMS

If connected to a version 6.5 SQL Server, any query containing the login_time or last_batch columns from the sysprocesses table and submitted using a 7.0 ODBC driver (3.70.xxxx) will return incorrect results for these columns.

CAUSE

These columns are incorrectly described as char(8) rather than datetime; however, the TDS stream actually returns them as datetime data.

In version 7.0, the on-disk format for datetime data is different than in version 6.5, which results in the data being garbled during the transfer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.5. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 5a for Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. For information about downloading and installing the latest SQL Server Service Pack, see http://support.microsoft.com/support/sql/.
