FIX: Constraint Violation Using INSERT INTO EXEC Causes SPID -1 and 3307

SYMPTOMS

Performing and INSERT INTO EXECUTE operation that violates a constraint (such as a primary key) results in the termination of the client, an error 3307 and SPID -1 remaining. The SPID -1 will show up in the error log as well as sp_lock output. The following is error 3307:

Error : 3307, Severity: 21, State: 1
Process 10 was expected to hold logical lock on page 584.
WARNING: Process being freed while holding Dataserver semaphore
spid-1 Process -1 was expected to hold logical lock on page 584.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.5. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 5a for Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. For information about downloading and installing the latest SQL Server Service Pack, see http://support.microsoft.com/support/sql/.
