FIX: ROLLUP and CUBE Return Incorrect Summary Values If Column Has CASE Expression

SYMPTOMS

If a SELECT statement contains a CASE expression, and that CASE expression contains a comparison with an integer, the ROLLUP and CUBE operators may return incorrect summary values.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next SQL Server service pack that contains this fix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the CASE expression to compare characters instead of integers.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.5 Service Pack 5 and Service Pack 5a.
