FIX: MS Query Hangs Trying to Overwrite an Existing Local Cube File

• Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

MS Query hangs when a user creates an OLAP cube and attempts to save a local cube (.cub) file with the same name as an existing cube file.

CAUSE

This happens only when the user is trying to overwrite the cube file in the same session, that is, without closing and re-opening MS Query.

WORKAROUND

The user can work around this problem by saving to a new local cube file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 1 for Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0.
