PRB: Using SQL 6.5 and 7.0 Enterprise Manager to Read from a Remote Server

SYMPTOMS

When you open the SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Manager for the first time after installing SQL 7.0 on a computer that already has the SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise Manager installed, you receive the following error message if your SQL 6.5 Enterprise Manager is configured to Read from a Remote Server:

The Server Registration Information could not be loaded-Registry read error : 2 - (The system cannot find the file specified). Please change the source in the Configure dialog box.

CAUSE

SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise Manager and SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Manager on the same computer does not allow you to configure the read from remote option separately because they share some of the same registry keys.

WORKAROUND

You can use the following to fix this behavior:

From the Tools menu, click Preferences/Configure and change the "Read From Remote" field to specify your 6.5 Server. However, this also changes the setting for your SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Manager. This behavior has been observed with the following settings:

• Read from remote



• Store locally



• Store user independent



• Login time out



• Query time out



• Packet size
