FIX: DTS Designer Fails with Unspecified Error When Adding Table to DTS Query Designer Window

SYMPTOMS

The Data Transformation Services (DTS) Designer Fails with the following error when adding a table to the DTS Query Designer Window:

Unspecified error
This error did not occur prior to Service Pack 1.


CAUSE

DTS fails with an "Unspecified error" error when using IBM's Client Access Driver to request heterogeneous schema information. In SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 1, SQL Server began setting the provider specific initialization properties. These properties were not being set correctly for IBM's Client Access Driver.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next SQL Server service pack that contains this fix.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 7.0 Service Pack 1.
