INF: Altering Database to Add Multiple Log Devices

ID: Q60055

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server for OS/2, version 4.2

When a database and log were originally created on the same device and the database is altered to add a device to assign a log to it, the log is physically moved to this new device, so that the log and the database are no longer competing with each other for disk space.

If additional devices are added for logs, SQL Server logically accesses the accumulated log devices as if they were one large log; the logs do not need to be in contiguous memory.

Additional query words: performance and tuning dump and load
