PRB: Cannot Call W3DBLIB.DLL Functions from Macro Languages

SYMPTOMS

The program cannot properly call the Windows version 3.0 DB-Library (DB-Lib) functions in W3DBLIB.DLL from the Word for Windows or Excel for Windows macro languages.

CAUSE

Most of the DB-Lib functions in W3DBLIB.DLL either return a pointer or take a pointer as a parameter. Neither the Word for Windows or Excel for Windows macro languages has a pointer data type. Thus, neither can accept a pointer as a return value from a db-lib function or pass a pointer to a db-lib function.

WORKAROUND

This is a limitation of the Word for Windows and Excel for Windows macro languages.
