ID: Q78360

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server for OS/2, version 4.2
  • Microsoft SQL Server version 4.2x

BUG# OS/2: 1031 (4.2)
       NT: 875 (4.2)

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to run a stored procedure, the following error message is returned:

Msg 924, Level 14, State 2
Database 'dbname' is already open and can only have one
user at a time.

CAUSE

There is a problem in SQL Server versions 4.2, 4.21 and 4.21a that causes a 924 error message to be generated when an attempt is made to run a stored procedure. The error is generated only if the database is in single user mode, and if the creator of the stored procedure was not the first user to run it.

WORKAROUND

To avoid this problem, ensure that the creator of a stored procedure runs that procedure following its creation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 4.2 for OS/2 and Microsoft SQL Server version 4.2. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
