PRB: "Out of Memory" Error When Using VBQUERY Sample App

SYMPTOMS

When executing a query with the VBQUERY sample application, which is included with the Visual Basic Library for SQL Server, the following error message is returned:

Out of memory.

CAUSE

When VBQUERY processes result rows from SQL Server, it formats and displays the columns by padding them with spaces and adding them to a list box. Because the maximum allowable number of characters to insert into a Visual Basic list box control is 64,000 bytes, large queries may exceed this limit and result in the "Out of memory" error.

WORKAROUND

This is a limitation of the VBQUERY sample application included with the Visual Basic Library for SQL Server.
