INF: Cursor Not Accept Temp Tables in ESQL for COBOL

ID: Q80283

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server version 4.2x

SUMMARY

When opening a cursor that is declared on an existing temporary table, the following error occurs:

SQLCODE=-0000000208
SQLERRD(1)=+0000000208
SQLERRMC = Invalid object name '#tmp_table'.

To workaround this, create a permanent table rather than a temporary table, and drop the table before closing the current connection.

MORE INFORMATION

SQL Server does not allow the use of user-defined temporary tables in a cursor declaration. When using the nosqlaccess option during compile time, the query that corresponds to the cursor declaration is put in a plan file. When the open cursor statement is executed, the query is sent to the SQL Server dynamically, but SQL Server does not recognize the object. When the sqlaccess option is used, the error message occurs while compiling.
