SYMPTOMSThe networking client (LAN Manager 2.2a) software that is distributed free to purchasers of NT sometimes hangs when the client is running TCP/IP as the only protocol and receives a Print Manager or Alerter message. A hard reset is required. CAUSE
The client often hangs if:
WORKAROUNDRemove the messenger service or use another protocol (for example, NetBEUI). STATUSMicrosoft has determined this to be a problem in the Microsoft Networking Client version 2.2a . We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. TO DUPLICATE BEHAVIOR
Logon from the client in a loop (for example: user1) and at the same time
send messages to the user from the server or any other workstation in a
loop(for example: net send user1 "message").
