Compaq Support Disk 1.11 (CSD) for Prosignia Support

ID: Q117716

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft LAN Manager, version 2.2

SUMMARY

Compaq's latest Support Disk (CSD) for OS/2 is version 1.1, dated 06/08/94.

If you have a Compaq Prosignia or other Compaq computer that use Compaq's Fast SCSI-2, Smart Controller IDA and IDA-2 controllers, you should get this update from Compaq.

There are also updated drivers for the Netflex line of Network adapters included in the support disk for LAN Manager 2.2, and MS-DOS, Windows, and OS/2 clients and servers.

Without the updated LADDR drivers, you may experience disaster recovery problems such as not seeing the files on the hard drive, or not being able to access the hard drive after booting from the HPFS recovery diskette included with LAN Manager.

MORE INFORMATION

You can obtain this update from Compaq by downloading a file called SP0771.ZIP from Compaq's BBS at (713) 378-1418.

Instructions for Decompressing SP0771.ZIP

Use PKUNZIP to unzip the SP0771.ZIP file to a temporary directory on the hard disk. This creates a self extracting file called SP0771.EXE. Execute it to create two files called OS2SS111.EXE and README.DOC. OS2SS111.EXE is also a self extracting executable, which creates two files called 145253-J._01 and QRST.EXE. The QRST program creates a 3.5" 1.44MB diskette from the 145253-J._01 image file, containing all the drivers, a README.1ST file and some batch files for creating recovery diskettes and copying the drivers to the hard disk. See the README.1ST file below for a listing of the drivers contained.

Example: LDRC710 recovery copies the LADDR drivers for the Compaq Prosignia to a COPY of the HPFS recovery diskette.

Table of Contents

1.0 Introduction

2.0 Supported Operating System Versions

3.0 Device/Controller Support

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The device drivers and utilities provided on this diskette enable you to
take advantage of specific capabilities of your Compaq computer when using
OS/2. This readme briefly describes the device drivers and utilities
contained on this diskette. For a description of what is new or updated on
this diskette, please see the WHATSNEW.RDM file.

README.COM, a DOS program, will display a list of all the README files on
this diskette when you type README at the DOS or OS/2 DOS prompt. Please
read the README file for a specific driver or utility before attempting to
install or use it. Most files are compressed to conserve diskette space.
These can be identified by an "!" in the file name extension (for example,
CPQARRAY.A!D). These are expanded by the Compaq Expand Utility,
CPQXPAND.EXE, which is a bound program and can be executed under both OS/2
and DOS. CMD installation scripts are supplied to expand and copy
compressed files from the diskette to the hard disk. To use them, change
to the diskette drive and execute the procedure.

          Example: A: <enter>
                    ADDARRAY C: <enter>

This command will expand CPQARRAY.A!D into CPQARRAY.ADD and copy it to C:.

2.0 SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEM VERSIONS

This diskette provides support for several versions of OS/2. The following
versions of OS/2 are supported by this diskette:

Microsoft OS/2 1.3 (as shipped with Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2)
     IBM OS/2 1.3 (with CSD 5050 applied)
IBM OS/2 2.0 GA (General Availability - CSD level 2000)
IBM OS/2 2.0 with Service Pak 2 CSD level 6100
IBM OS/2 2.1 GA (General Availability - CSD level 2010)
     IBM OS/2 2.1 with Service Pak 1 CSD level 6200 (OS/2 2.11)

In addition, there is MS-DOS support for the Compaq network controllers
supported by this diskette. The following versions of MS-DOS are supported
by this diskette's network drivers:

     MS-DOS 3.3
     MS-DOS 5.0
     MS-DOS 6.1
     MS-DOS 6.2

3.0 DEVICE/CONTROLLER SUPPORT

3.1 STORAGE DEVICES AND CONTROLLERS

The availability and location of device drivers for disk, tape, CD-ROM,
and floppy devices depends upon the version of OS/2 that the user is using.
Read the .RDM files listed for information about the various installation
programs.

If a device or controller is not listed in the tables below, it means the
device or controller is supported as part of the base OS/2 product and
does not need to be installed from this diskette. For example, CD-ROM
support under IBM OS/2 v2.x is provided in the base product. In this case,
the only thing the user needs to install from this diskette is the SCSI
controller driver support for the SCSI controller that the CD-ROM is
connected to.
