Unable to Bind NIC Driver for Compaq Ministation/EN

ID: Q122056

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft LAN Manager, version 2.2

SYMPTOMS

When you start a Compaq notebook computer, such as the COMPAQ LTE Elite, on a COMPAQ Ministation/EN (docking station) with a Netflex-2 ENET network adapter (Intel 595 chip set), the following error message may appear:

Error 33: Unable to Bind

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you are using the NIC driver, NDIS595.DOS, shipped with the COMPAQ Ministation/EN.

RESOLUTION

Compaq has the correct driver for the network adapter available on Compaq's FTP server and soon on the CPQFORUM on CompuServe. The files to download are SP0634.DOC and SP0634.ZIP. Following are the recommended steps of upgrading the driver for the Netflex-2 ENET network adapter.

For additional information, call Compaq Technical Support at (800) 652- 6672.

  1. Create a directory called Compaq and download SP0634.DOC and SP0634.ZIP to the directory.

  2. Unzip SP0634.ZIP. SP0634.EXE should be available.

  3. Run SP0634.EXE. This extracts files QRST.EXE (creates an installation disk for the Intel 595-16E network adapters) and NDIS595.DOS (updated driver for Intel 595-16E).

  4. Place a blank, formatted 1.44 MB floppy disk in Drive A and run QRST.EXE from the Compaq directory.
