SYMPTOMS
When you quit an application that was launched through a universal naming
convention (UNC) connection, the server shows the session between the
workstation and the server as still active. If you do a NET USE command
from the workstation, however, it shows that the connection no longer
exists.
CAUSEBy default, the network session stays active for 10 minutes after a workstation stops its session with the server. WORKAROUNDYou can edit the LANMAN.INI file on the workstation to change the disconnect time from the default of 10 minutes. To do this, add the following entry to the workstation's LANMAN.INI file in the [workstation] section
where nnn is the number of seconds the workstation maintains the session
for an inactive UNC connection to a shared resource. The default is 600
seconds. The keepconn parameter is only for UNC connections, not redirected
drives; use the AutoDisconnect parameter in the LANMAN.INI file on the
server to free up redirected drives.
NOTE: There is a brief reference to the keepconn parameter on page 238 of the Microsoft LAN Manager Administrator's Guide. After you modify the LANMAN.INI file on the workstation, stop the workstation and restart it for the change to take affect. Additional query words: prodlm 2.20 2.10 2.1a 2.2a 2.2b enhanced client
