SYMPTOMSIn order to resolve computer name-to-IP address mappings, LAN Manager 2.2c client computers use the information presented when you run DNR.EXE. If the LAN Manager client is configured to use DHCP, the DHCP server usually provides a DNS server address automatically. If you use IPCONFIG.EXE at the MS-DOS command prompt, the IP Address of the DNS server is displayed, as long as the DHCP server is configured properly. If you attempt to use DNR.EXE, the LAN Manager client computer fails to resolve the DNS query. CAUSEEven though IPCONFIG displays the DNS IP address received from the DHCP server, the LAN Manager client checks the TCPUTILS.INI file. WORKAROUNDUse the LAN Manager 2.2c Setup program to configure the DNS IP address. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in LAN Manager 2.2c. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. Additional query words: prodlm 2.20c
