ID: Q130030

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft LAN Manager, version 2.2

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install the LAN Manager MS-DOS Enhanced Workstation over the network on a computer with MS-DOS version 6.22, the following error message appears:

The DOS version on the bootable disk is not supported by LAN Manager 2.2.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem:

  1. Copy the MS-DOS version 6.22 SETVER.EXE file to the root directory of the bootable floppy disk.

  2. Use a text editor such as MS-DOS Editor to add the following line to the CONFIG.SYS file:
    device=<drive>:\setver.exe
    where <drive> is drive A (the boot drive).

  3. Rename the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the bootable floppy disk to another name. For example:
    rename autoexec.bat autoexec.otn

  4. Reboot the computer.

  5. Type the following at the command prompt:
    setver nsetup.exe 5.00

  6. Rename the AUTOEXEC.OTN file to AUTOEXEC.BAT.

  7. Reboot the computer and install the LAN Manager MS-DOS Enhanced Workstation over the network again.
