NET3121 Memory Segment Error if MAXLOCKS > 4094

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft LAN Manager, version 1.01

If you set the MAXLOCKS parameter in the [Server] section of LANMAN.INI to a number greater than 4094, the following message appears when you attempt to use the NET START SERVER command:
The SERVER service is starting...
The SERVER service could not be started.
The service didn't report an error.
If you check the error log, you will find the following error message:
NET3121: The server cannot increase the size of a memory segment.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in OS/2 LAN Manager version 1.01. This is a problem in the server initialization code.
