BUG: F1001, emit.c, Line 400 with /Gw /4Yb

• Microsoft FORTRAN for MS-DOS, version 5.1
• Microsoft FORTRAN for OS/2, version 5.1

SYMPTOMS

When compiling a program with Microsoft FORTRAN version 5.1 with the /4Yb and /Gw compile options, the following error is generated:

fatal error F1001: Internal Compiler Error
(compiler file '@(#)emit.c:1.2', line 400)

CAUSE

This error may occur when compiling a subroutine that contains an index to an adjustable sized array within an executable statement. This subroutine must also be compiled in the same source file as the main program.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this error, compile the subroutine in a separate source file from the main program, or remove the /4Yb or /Gw option from the compile line.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft FORTRAN version 5.1 for MS-DOS and OS/2.

This is not an issue in FORTRAN PowerStation because the /Gw option is not supported.
