SUMMARY
The Stacker 2.0 installer does not copy all essential .INI files to
the boot volume. This has an impact on MS-DOS installations with LAN
Manager and Windows for Workgroups 3.1 if they install NDIS drivers
and use PROTMAN. You can work around this problem by copying *.INI
from the C:\LANMAN.DOS directory on your stacked volume to the boot
volume.
SYMPTOMSOn the default Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1 configuration, the Stacker 2.0 installer fails to move all the necessary configuration files to the boot volume when stacking the hard drive. CAUSEPROTMAN reports a file open error, probably because it cannot find all the necessary .INI files in the path on the boot volume. RESOLUTIONTo work around this problem, copy *.INI from your C:\LANMAN.DOS directory on the stacked volume to the boot volume. PROTMAN then finds all the files it needs and proceeds as usual. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem. We are researching it and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. MORE INFORMATIONSteps to Reproduce ProblemThis problem has been reproduced on two configurations:
