List of Modems/Baud Rates Supported by RAS 1.0 and 1.1

SUMMARY

In Remote Access Service versions 1.0 and 1.1, the most comprehensive list of supported modems and their maximum baud rate with RAS is contained in the MODEMS.INF file that is installed with the RAS program on the RAS client and server computers in the <LAN Man root> directory. The RAS "Administrator's Guide" and the README.TXT file (in c:\<LAN Man root>\RAS directory) both contain only partial listings because they are meant to complement each other.

Below is a comprehensive listing of the supported modems in RAS 1.0 and 1.1.

Note: All modems are external except for the Telebit Internal. The internal versions of external modems are not automatically supported because they may behave differently. Internal modems must provide all the serial port hardware that is otherwise provided by the computer's serial port. This hardware may be non-standard and therefore could cause problems for RAS, but there is a good chance that an internal version of a supported modems works the same. The following listing shows which modems, X.25 network cards, and actual baud rates supported by Microsoft that are supported by RAS 1.0 and/or RAS 1.1. Beside the MAXBAUD= parameter listed beneath some modem and card names there may be important comments about the modem and/or its baud rate capabilities. Only some of the comments are taken directly out of the MODEMS.INF file.

RAS 1.0 does NOT support any X.25 networks, including the Atlantis and Eicon cards.

An asterisk (*) indicates that a modem is NOT supported by RAS 1.0, but it still should work correctly with it.

Please note that the items are not listed completely in alphabetical order, because the listing is an excerpt of the MODEMS.INF file for RAS 1.1 with additional comments (preceded by a number sign [#]). If your modem is NOT listed, refer to the information at the end of this article.
