Removing ACLs with Unsuccessful DETACH

SUMMARY

The detach process removes the LAN Manager information from Config.sys, changes the detach flag in Setup.ini, changes the file system from HPFS386 to HPFS, runs backacc to create a file called Hpfs386x.acl (where x represents the drive letter), and removes the ACLs from the hpfs386 file structure. This file(s) is placed in the root directory.

If all the ACLS are not cleaned from the drives during the DETACH process, you can develop problems. To avoid them, back up the server to a non-HPFS386 file system using xcopy (xcopy does not copy acls). Format the original system with FAT/HPFS syst ms, and xcopy back.

Or, if you prefer, you can simply write a utility that cleans out ACLs.
