XADM: Determining the Need for MS Mail Gateway Access Components

ID: Q147466

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Exchange Server, version 4.0

SUMMARY

In certain circumstances, Microsoft Mail Gateway Access components will need to be installed on either a Microsoft Mail 3.x postoffice, or on the Microsoft Exchange Server Proxy postoffice.

MORE INFORMATION

Two scenarios exist where you will be required to install MS Mail Gateway access components:

  • Exchange users need PC Mail Gateway functionality. For example, a Microsoft Mail Gateway to MHS is installed on a Microsoft Mail postoffice. The MS Mail Gateway to MHS Access component must be installed on the Exchange proxy postoffice (which is located in EXCHSRVR\CONNECT\MSMCON\MAILDTA).

  • MS Mail 3.x users need the Internet Mail Connector (IMC) or X.400 connector functionality. For example, the IMC is installed on an Exchange Server. MS Mail users would like to send Internet Mail using the IMC. Install the MS Mail SMTP Gateway Access component on the MS Mail postoffice. When prompted for the Network and Postoffice name of the gateway postoffice, enter the Network name and Postoffice name of the Exchange proxy postoffice. This information can be found in the Exchange Administrator program by selecting Connections, then MS Mail Connector, and then the Local Postoffice tab.
