XADM: Effect of Daylight Saving Time Change

ID: Q147501

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Exchange Server, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.5

SUMMARY

After the change from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time, the times for all Microsoft Exchange Server scheduled events move ahead by an hour. Similarly, after changing from Standard Time to Daylight Saving Time, all Microsoft Exchange Server scheduled events move back by an hour.

MORE INFORMATION

The above behavior will be noticed if the Windows NT Server is set to automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time.

This is by design. All objects in the system are based around Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) plus or minus the difference of the server's time zone from GMT. GMT does not change with the Daylight Saving adjustment and this causes a shift in the times of the scheduled events.

One workaround is to turn off the Automatically Adjust for Daylight Saving Time option in the Date/Time applet under the Windows NT Server Control Panel. After the Daylight Saving time change, manually change the system clock twice a year.
