XFOR: Cannot Choose Address Types With Exchange DXA

ID: Q147608

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Exchange Server, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.5

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Mail version 3.x, you can "define addresses to be updated by directory synchronization." This is useful if addresses of certain types that you do not want to circulate throughout the entire system exist.

Microsoft Exchange Directory Synchronization does not have this feature. This is by design. This article lists other ways to limit the propagation of addresses when you use Microsoft Exchange as the Directory Synchronization (DirSync) server or requestor.

MORE INFORMATION

There are three ways to limit the propagation of addresses with Microsoft Exchange to Microsoft Mail version 3.x. They are as follows:

  • Set individual user trust levels. Select recipient or user account(s) Properties, Advanced page. Set the Trust Level to a number greater than the Trust Level set on the Export Containers property page of the Remote DirSync Requestor or DirSync Requestor. When DirSync completes, the users with trust levels higher than the Export Container trust levels are not exported.

  • Create separate recipient containers for your addresses. In Microsoft Exchange, you can use multiple recipient containers. These are used to limit which users are exported to Microsoft Mail version 3.x.

  • Select the Export Custom Recipients check box. In the requestor's properties Export Containers page, select the "Export custom recipients" check box if you do not want to export any information regarding custom recipients.
