XADM: How To Include the GAL in the Offline Address Book

SUMMARY

By default, only the recipients from your Microsoft Exchange Site will listed in your Offline Address Book. This article describes how a Microsoft Exchange Administrator can include all recipients from the Global Address Book (GAL) in the Offline Address Book.

By default, Microsoft Exchange Server builds the Offline Address Book from just the recipients located in the same Microsoft Exchange Site as the Microsoft Exchange Server. This can be changed to generate an Address Book containing all users from the GAL by following these steps:

1. Start the Microsoft Exchange Administrator program.



2. Highlight the Configuration container for the Site to be changed in the left pane.



3. Double-click on the DS Site Configuration object in the right pane. This will bring up the DS Site Configuration Properties window.



4. Click the Offline Address Book tab.
   
   For Exchange Server version 4.0:



5. Click the Modify button in the Generate Data Files From the Address Book Container section.



6. In the Offline Address Book Container window, select the Global Address List container and click OK. The Generate Data Files From The Address Book Container field will change to Global Address List.

For Exchange Server versions 5.0 and 5.5:

5. Click the Add button.

6. In the Offline Address Book Container window, select the Global Address List container and click OK. The Address Book Container field will add the Global Address List.
