XADM: Steps to Remove Exchange Server Completely

SUMMARY
This article describes the steps to completely remove Microsoft Exchange
Server from a computer.

Please make sure that you have backed up any required information. These
steps will delete all existence of Microsoft Exchange server from your
computer. Please proceed at your own risk.
- Using the Services tool in Control Panel, stop the Microsoft Exchange
System Attendant service, which will stop all the Exchange Services.
- Run Setup from the Microsoft Exchange Server compact disc and select
Remove All. Follow the on-screen instructions and this will remove all
Exchange Server files that were installed during setup and never
modified.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide
problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
- Run the Registry Editor(REGEDT32.EXE).
- Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:
System/CurrentControlSet/Services
- Delete all installed Microsoft Exchange Services. These services the
following:
MSExchangeDS
MSExchangeDX
MSExchangeFB,
MSExchangeIMC
MSExchangeIS
MSExchangeKMS
MSExchangeMSMI
MSExchangeMTA
MSExchangePCMTA
MSExchangeSA.
- Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:
SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Exchange
and delete Exchange. Choose Yes at the pop-up that says "Registry Editor
will delete the currently selected key and all its subkeys."
Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:
SOFTWARE/Microsoft/EDB
and delete EDB. Choose Yes at the pop-up that says "Registry Editor
will delete the currently selected key and all its subkeys."
- In File Manager, delete the EXCHSRVR directory and all the sub-
directories under this directory from the hard drive. If you have
multiple hard disks on the computer, you need to delete the EXCHSRVR
directory from all these hard disks.
