SYMPTOMS

After installing Windows NT 4.0, the Microsoft Exchange administrator may encounter the following error in the application log of the Event Viewer, when attempting to start the Internet Mail Connector (IMC):

Event ID: 7024 The MS Mail Connector Interchange terminated with server- specific error 106.

The administrator will also get the following error message if he or she clicks Tools\Extract Windows NT Account List from within the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program:

The parameter is incorrect.

CAUSE

Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) has not been applied to the computer running Windows NT Server. Microsoft Exchange is not supported on Windows NT 4.0 unless Microsoft Exchange Server SP2 has been applied.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem:

Apply Microsoft Exchange SP2 to the computer running Windows NT Server 4.0.
