MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

The location that attachments are saved to is not a function of the Exchange or Outlook client. It is a function of the operating system's Program Manager shell. In the case of Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0, this shell is Explorer.

To change this location requires editing the Registry.

  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe for Windows 95/98, Regedt32.exe for Windows NT).

  2. Select the following Registry key:

  3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\User Shell Folders
  4. Modify the following value by replacing the default directory path with the path for the location you want to save attachments in:

  5. Personal
  6. Quit Registry Editor.

  7. Restart the Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook client.
