XADM: Error Message: Could Not Open Emsmdb32.dll During Upgrade

SYMPTOMS

During the upgrade to Exchange Server 5.0 Service Pack 2, you may receive the following error message:

Could not open the file named d:\<%winnt%>\system32\EMSMDB32.DLL. It is
in use by another application.


CAUSE

An application such as the Microsoft Exchange Administrator program has the file locked open.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, close the Microsoft Exchange Administrator program.
