XADM: System Attendant Fails To Start With Error 1068

SYMPTOMS

When you start the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant, you may receive the following error:

Could not start the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant on computer
\\<SERVERNAME>

Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.


CAUSE

This error will occur if one of the services that the System Attendant depends on cannot be started.


WORKAROUND

In the Registry Editor, verify that all the dependency services listed under the following key have started:


  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\ 
  DependonService
