SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade to Exchange Server 5.5, the upgrade fails and the following error message appears: This occurs immediately after the option to upgrade or uninstall Exchange. CAUSEThe Key Management (KM) server was not removed completely during a previous upgrade attempt. WORKAROUND
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
MORE INFORMATIONThis workaround allows Exchange Server 5.5 to upgrade the existing server. To regain the functionality of the Key Management server, the KM server must be reinstalled. Additional query words: KMS
