SYMPTOMSAfter you install the Microsoft Exchange Chat Service 5.5 Service Pack 1 or Microsoft Commercial Internet System Chat 2.0 on a Backup Domain Controller (BDC), the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) is does not run. The following error message appears:
CAUSEThis error occurs because the Chat Administrator Account is not created as a local account on the Backup Domain Controller. RESOLUTION
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, install the registry key (see the Resolution section above), and then install the Microsoft Exchange Chat Service. The MMC functions properly after these steps have been completed. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
