XCLN: Outlook 98 Stops Responding After First Exit and Logoff

ID: Q189890

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook Windows 95/98 client, version 8.5
  • Microsoft Outlook Windows NT client, version 8.5

SYMPTOMS

After you complete Active Setup for Microsoft Outlook 98, if you included Integrated File Management when you select options for your installation, Outlook subsequently stops responding when you quit the program after running it for the first time.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if Find Fast is already installed on the computer and you select the Integrated File Management component during Outlook Active Setup. A conflict exists between Find Fast and the Integrated File Management component during the initial start of Outlook causing the program to appear to stop responding when you quit.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article

MORE INFORMATION

Although Outlook appears to have stopped responding, it appears as a running task in the Task Manager list and you will still receive reminders and other alerts. If a reminder is opened and then closed, it will shut Outlook down successfully. When you recover from the initial hang condition, Outlook quits normally.

Integrated File Management provides local network file browsing and is an optional component in Outlook.

Find Fast is a caching indexer that allows for quicker performance when opening files in Office 97 programs.
