ID: Q196305

  • Microsoft Exchange Server, version 5.5

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Connector for Lotus Notes may fail to install after a fresh installation of Exchange Server. An error may be displayed indicating that the service has already been installed and setup can not continue.

CAUSE

The Notes connector was not properly uninstalled before Exchange Server was reinstalled. The "Remove All" action for Exchange Server does not clean up the Notes connector from the registry. This problem applies to SNADS and OV/VM connectors, as well.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove the Notes (SNADS, and OV/VM) connectors before removing the Exchange Server installation.

Or manually delete the following registry keys:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

STATUS

Microsoft acknowledges this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

There are additional complications that cause the installation of the Notes connector to fail in overriding previous installations. This will remain a problem until the Exchange Server setup includes all the connectors in the remove all process.
