XCLN: Outlook 98 Active Setup Fails Error

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Outlook 98, the Setup may fail, and you receive the following error message:

The producer entry point 0cbytestream@@qae@xz could not be located in the dynamic link library Msoert.dll
The Active Setup.log may show the following entry:

CAUSE

Internet Explorer or Outlook Express files are missing or corrupted.


WORKAROUND

  1. Remove Outlook 98.


  2. Reinstall Internet Explorer 3.02 or later to replace any missing or damaged files.


  3. Reinstall Outlook 98.
