XADM: Buffer Is Not Cleared in Exchange LDAP Service

SYMPTOMS

If you use Telnet to connect to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port 3389, you may experience either of the following symptoms:

If you send an invalid Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) command, the Exchange Server computer may store all the data you send in a buffer until you end the connection, rather than clearing the buffer after the invalid command is sent. This could eventually cause the server to run out of memory.

If you send an LDAP bind request with a Distinguished Name that is longer than 1 KB, the directory service may stop unexpectedly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Exchange Server version 5.5. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5. This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3.
