This article explains how to enable a public Contacts folder so that you can access it while working in Microsoft Word.

To enable a public Contacts folder for access from Word:

  1. Make sure the client in question has the Outlook Address Book service enabled within the mail profile.


  2. Create a public Contacts folder. Enter a contact or a series of contacts.


  3. Open the properties of the public Contacts folder, click the Outlook Address Book tab, and make sure that the Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book check box is selected.


  4. Start Microsoft Word, and on the Tools menu, click Envelopes and Labels.


  5. Click the Book icon to pull up the Address listing.


  6. On the top left is the Show names from the option, and to the right of that is a box that contains a list of Address Books to view. Click the down arrow.


  7. Select the public Contacts folder that was created in step 2.
